Jung-a Jang, Professor of Chinese Language and Literature and Director of the China Studies Institute at Incheon National University (President: In-jae Lee), has been appointed as a member of the Korean National Commission for the Memory of the World.

The Korean National Commission for the Memory of the World is responsible for discussing and reviewing matters related to the Memory of the World Programme, including selecting candidate records for inscription, reviewing nomination dossiers, and coordinating international responses. The newly appointed members—including Chair Seung-woon Shin (Professor Emeritus, Sungkyunkwan University), Gil-bae Lee (Director General of Heritage Policy Bureau, Korea Heritage Service), and Hyun-sook Seo (Director of the Intellectual Solidarity Division, Korean National Commission for UNESCO)—will serve until December 2029.

Professor Jang previously delivered a lecture titled “Memory of the World and Women: Beacon for the Future” at the UNESCO Memory of the World Capacity-Building Workshop in 2024, addressing experts and citizens from 11 African countries on archival heritage and women. She has also served as a member of a subcommittee of the Korean National Commission for the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme.

In addition, Professor Jang has been actively engaged as a heritage expert, co-authoring the educational book “UNESCO Heritage Embracing Peace” with teachers and specialists in the field. The book has received positive responses both domestically and internationally and has been translated into English and distributed abroad as educational material for heritage education.
